FAQ

Wedding photography – Frequently asked questions

  1. What is your USP (unique selling point)?

I’m Heather – The wedding photographer for nature lovers. I’m all about capturing your relationship in the most beautiful natural landscapes. The British Isles truly are a spectacular backdrop; I spend my spare time hiking and exploring forests, coastal paths & mountain trails. Finding beautiful viewpoints & imagining how I could wrangle a couple to meet me there!

As soon as I’m out exploring, nature is one great, big breath of calm every time. I can feel all that leafy goodness bringing my heart rate down. I love that I can give that to you on your wedding day by stealing you away for a walk (& beautiful photos at the same time) in the fresh air.

Photographing you beautiful people in the woodlands, mountains, lakes, beaches of my homeland is my favourite thing. Each venue has its own beauty & I love finding nearby secret spots to capture your couple portraits.

  1. We’re get married but we’re nervous about having our photo taken. Is this an issue?

It’s not a problem & it’s completely normal to feel a bit strange about being the centre of attention. It definitely isn’t an every day occurrence! As your wedding photographer more than anything I want you to feel comfortable. I’m a relaxed & friendly person and I’m more than happy to work around your needs. Couples tell me I am great at making them feel relaxed during their portrait session. If you’re nervous, you don’t feel you’re photogenic or don’t think you’ll be able to relax; I’d love to gently prove you wrong.

I have a questionnaire where I ask you to share how much time you’d like to spend capturing couple portraits so that I know exactly how you feel. Some couples tell me they prefer a documentary style wedding day coverage with very minimal time away for couple photos. That’s completely fine. I love capturing the day as it is. I’d love to capture some photos of the two of you that reflect your relationship but at the end of the day, I’m here for you. So tell me your priorities and I’ll follow your lead!

Some of the most beautiful wedding days I’ve photographed have been where the wedding party almost forgets I’m there. I’m able to capture real connection with the newlyweds & their loved ones that feels really natural.

  1. Where are you based? What area do you cover? Do you travel?

I’m a Welsh wedding photographer, based in the Cardiff / Newport area within South Wales. But I love to travel further afield. I’m available all over the United Kingdom and I love a destination wedding too.

  1. Can we see a full wedding gallery?

Yes, that can be really helpful in understanding the kind of wedding gallery I deliver. Pop me a message and I can send you a link to a full wedding gallery.

  1. Do you have my date available?

Hopefully! Reach out & we can check.

6. Will you be the primary photographer at our wedding?

ALWAYS. If you add on a second photographer, I will still be the lead photographer. Or if you book photo & film I will be lead photographer while Moses captures the film. If you book for just film, it will be me capturing your videography. I complete all the editing myself for both photography & videography.

  1. Can we meet you before booking?

Yes, we can have a zoom call to discuss all your wedding details. If you’re local to Cardiff / Newport area I’m more than happy to meet up for a coffee pre-wedding. If you’d like to book an engagement shoot, we can meet & chat details then too. Some couples prefer to converse via email so it’s completely your preference!

  1. Do I really need a wedding photographer?

Yes, you do – I’m going to be biased here, but you’ll be glad you did! Choosing anyone other than a professional wedding photographer to capture your wedding, is at the end of the day, a risk. They might get a few good photos but then again, they might not. And you can’t re-do the day. Spend time doing the research and find the wedding photographer that makes you feel at ease whose vision corresponds with yours and book them! The photographs & films are the only things (other than your wedding vows) that last after the day is over!

  1. Do you offer videography?

Yes, I shoot both photography & videography and I love shooting both! I capture one or the other on a wedding day so if we are booked for both, my husband Moses will join me to capture the film. Feel free to ask which example films were shot by who.

10. Do I need a second photographer?

A second photographer is really helpful for creating a full picture of your day. For example, when we’re off around the venue / at a nearby beauty spot getting couple photos, the second photographer is capturing the ad-hoc cricket match between your families or your grandad dancing to his favourite song. The guests arriving when I’m with the bridal party. The dancefloor when we’re off for golden hour. A second photographer can definitely be a great addition. Expect more angles of the ceremony, speeches, bride & groom preparation as well as more candid images & guest photographs in general.

    11. Do you carry backup equipment?

Yes, my top priority as a wedding photographer is having backup equipment! I carry two cameras on me throughout the wedding day. Which means that if for whatever reason one camera has a funny 5 minutes, I’ve got the other strapped to me ready to go. I’ve got multiple lenses, flash equipment, many SD cards, multiple chargers and a whole suitcase full of helpful bits & bobs.

    12. Where do wedding photographers stand during the ceremony?

I normally talk to the celebrant/vicar pre-ceremony to check they are happy with my positioning. I tend to start positioned near the front with the groom and then later move down towards the opposite end of the aisle to capture you leaving the ceremony. However, if you have a preference, you can let me know!

      13. Do you take group photos?

Yes, feel free to provide me with a group shot list in advance so I can capture those family photos that are important to you.

        14. Should we provide food for you as our wedding photographer?

I love if a couple can provide a meal – it’s a long working day & having a proper break with a warm meal really helps me reset for the rest of the day. Also, experience tells me guests prefer not to be photographed when eating – so it’s a perfect time for me to have a break! I’ll still capture details of the wedding tables, food etc but will avoid doing so during this time. I can sit wherever works; often I sit in the bar area or a room adjacent to the reception room.

        15. How long does a photographer stay at a wedding?

In a full day package, I stay until the first dance plus around 20 minutes after to capture a little of the dance floor. If the dance floor is your favourite part, I’m more than happy to extend my coverage.

          16. How many photos do you get in a wedding package?

In my bridal prep to first dance package, I deliver a minimum of 400 photographs. But I will say I do tend to get very emotionally invested & over deliver! All the details of the individual packages can be seen here:
