The Guildhall, Bath & Bathwick Boatman Wedding, Somerset

THE GUILDHALL, SYDNEY GARDENS & BATHWICK BOATMAN WEDDING

The day started with Clare & Ben having their lovely, intimate ceremony at The Guildhall, Bath’s registry office. The Guildhall in Bath city centre is a Grade 1 Listed Georgian & Victorian building. With Georgian detailing and grand staircases, The Guildhall has several ceremony rooms including The Jane Austen Room. Bath registry office is a short walk from the Roman Baths, River Avon and Pulteney Bridge.

After tying the knot in a small ceremony, the bride & groom & their guests walked the 20 minutes to The Bathwick Boatman for the reception. At this point Clare, Ben & I left the troop to get some couple portraits of the newlyweds via Sydney Gardens.

SYDNEY GARDENS – WEDDING PORTRAITS

Central to Bath, behind the Holburne Museum at the end of Great Pulteney Street, Sydney Gardens is the oldest park in the city. The large Georgian gardens were designed in 1795 by the architect Harcourt Masters. Sydney gardens were a favourite amongst Royalty and with Jane Austen who lived at number 4 Sydney Place, just opposite. The gardens feature mature trees, lawns and flower displays, tennis courts and a children’s park, with the summer months bringing outdoor cinema and performances. The Kennet and Avon Canal carves its way through the park, with walks along the towpath to admire its refined iron bridges.

Sydney Gardens really does make for the most beautiful post ceremony wedding portraits. The combination of lush greenery & Georgian architecture create a beautiful backdrop for weddings and engagements.

There was a lot of love poured into this day from both the bride & groom & their families. The family made the bouquet & flower arrangements for the reception – what more proof do you need that DIY is truly beautiful! The bride’s family hand painted floral details for the tables & designed & created the wedding stationery featured on the invite & table places – the most intricate & stunning lino print! What a special keepsake!

Let me start off by saying this perhaps controversial statement – wedding days need more boats! Booking with Bathwick Boatman for a punt / row on the river was an excellent wedding day activity for all of Clare & Ben’s guests (myself included – I don’t think I’ve belly laughed as much at a reception before). All due credit must be given to the great team ferrying me up & down the river Avon to capture photographs of the newlyweds. Really couldn’t recommend a Bathwick Boatman wedding more!

Aside from the river antics, Bathwick Boatman put on a glorious meal for Clare & Ben’s guests and the venue itself lends itself to anyone looking for a cosy and alternative venue for a smaller number. Of course, with the benefit of the beautiful river view & lovely gardens surrounded by flowers & weeping willows. If I can have more weddings at Bathwick Boatman in Bath that’ll be superb!

Thanks for having me as your wedding photographer Clare & Ben – what a special day to be a part of!
